History

Our history of logistics gives us the edge
The history of Hudig dates back to 1795, when Mr John Hudig and his brother-in-law founded Hudig & Blokhuyzen. In the early 1860s, Hudig joined forces with the Veder family, creating Hudig & Veder. Hudig & Veder were active as shipowners via their subsidiary Maatschappij Zeevaart and as ship agents. Some of the major clients at the time were Royal KNSM (P&O Nedlloyd), Maersk, Meyer Line, Ethiopian Shipping Line and the fully owned Holland Ireland Line.

Family firm
The Fontein family became involved with Hudig & Veder in the 1920s, when J.G.A. Fontein became a partner. The other partners were representatives of the Hudig and Veder families. Between 1964 and 1980, both the Hudig and Veder families sold their interests, leaving the Fontein family in full control.
During this period, Hudig & Veder also developed forwarding activities. These forwarding activities became more important after the start of warehousing activities in 1991, the takeover of Dammers Holding in 1994 and further takeovers in 1996 and 1997, of Van der Helm International and Ship Spares Logistics respectively.
Hudig has transformed successfully from a traditional ship agent into a modern logistics service provider.
